I've been a fan of the Olsen twins since back in the Michelle days, even though my obsession has dwindled to more of a weird observation over the years. These days, I'd be more likely to scan through some bizarre fashion choices the two made instead of tune in to the Tanner family. Of course the twins have recognized this financial goldmine by launching a bio of sorts with Penguin books, Influence.

According to MK and Ashley's official blog:

"Influence introduces readers to respected artists, seasoned designers and others who have influenced Mary-Kate Olsen and Ashley Olsen over the past decade. The book will feature influential figures including; Christian Louboutin, Lauren Hutton, Bob Colacello, Terry Richardson, Jack Pierson and Robert Lee Morris. A coffee table book, Influence includes exclusive photographs of Ashley and Mary-Kate from world renowned photographer Rankin, and a wide variety of other never-before-seen materials and interviews from Mary-Kate and Ashley’s personal collections".

Ashley Olsen said of the project, “Mary-Kate and I have filled Influence with the most interesting, challenging, creative people we know—the ones who helped pave the way for us and our generation.” Hm. Do you think they included the influences that led MK to rehab?

The 272-page may also entice fans with a "private collection" of photos of the girls and their own drawings.

I'm not one to vouch for the Olsen's "hard-earned" success, but the NY Times did a really interesting profile of the twins last week that ponders their status as fashion icons (or fashion flops?) and their growing up in America's spotlight. Definitely worth a read even if the two aren't coffee table status in your mind.
